It has been revealed that characters from the World Masterpiece Theater will appear in the episode “Maruko Stays at the Library at Night,” which will air on July 20th in the TV anime “Chibi Maruko-chan.”
The episode depicts Maruko’s mysterious experience at a library at night, where she stays overnight as part of a summer vacation special project. After the lights go out, a rabbit wearing a tuxedo and carrying a silver watch appears, and Maruko enjoys a tea party with Anne and Diana from “Anne of Green Gables,” and meets Marco, a boy traveling in search of his mother.
The role of Anne in this episode will be played by Hidaka Rina, who played the lead role in the 26th installment of the World Masterpiece Theater series, “Hello Anne: Before Green Gables,” which aired in 2009.

Anne Returns in a Special Crossover Episode Airing July 20
This upcoming episode of Chibi Maruko-chan, airing on July 20, offers a nostalgic treat for anime fans as beloved characters from World Masterpiece Theater make a special appearance. Of particular note is the return of Anne, voiced by Rina Hidaka, who played the same role in Hello Anne (2009). This crossover not only celebrates the legacy of classic literature-based anime but also bridges generations of viewers by merging two iconic series. It’s a clever way to introduce young viewers to literary heroines like Anne while delivering a sense of familiarity to older fans.
