Night of the Living Cat PV Released

Tomoko Miyadera, Kazuyuki Okitsu, Atsumi Tanezaki and others have been confirmed as additional cast members for the TV anime “Night of the Living Cat,” directed by Takashi Miike. The main PV, theme song information, and broadcast date and time have also been released.

The original is a survival comedy manga by Hawkman (original author) and Mekarouts (illustrator) currently being serialized in “Monthly Comic Garden” and “MAGCOMI”. Set in a world dominated by a cat disaster called Nyandemic, caused by the N.N virus, in which people turn into cats when they are touched by other cats, cat lovers including Kunagi (CV: Mizunaka Masaaki), an amnesiac cat cafe employee, and high school girl Kaoru (Ueda Reina) attempt to survive surrounded by cats while resisting the temptation to touch them.

The Last Samurai

The additional cast will play characters who appear in the middle of the story, “Nyapocalypse Arc.” Miyadera will play Grandma, Okitsu will play Keisuke, and Tanezaki will play Suou. In addition, Mitsuru will be played by Tsuruoka Satoshi, Koji by Naka Hiroshi, Gunslinger by Morikawa Toshiyuki, the translator by Genda Tesshō, and the narration for the entire work will be done by Chiba Shigeru. The cast who will play the Last Samurai will be announced at a later date.

The main PV begins with a narration by Chiba, and shows how the world is taken over by adorable cats, with characters who love cats standing up to them, and ends with a scene in which a translator played by Genda translates a word said by a cat.

The opening theme song “CAT CITY” will be sung by rock band “THE YELLOW MONKEY”, and the ending theme song will be “Matatabi” by three-piece rock band “WANIMA”. Parts of both songs are included in the main PV.

The main visual has also been released, and shows Kunagi and Kaoru running away from a cute cat with familiar goggles in front of them with regretful expressions on their faces.

The TV anime “Night of the Living Cat” will start on TV Tokyo at 2am on July 7, on BS TV Tokyo at 12:30am on the 8th, on TV Hokkaido at 2:05am on the 8th, and on Animax at 9:30pm on the 26th. A pre-release stream will be available on ABEMA Premium from 11pm on July 6, and will also be available on ABEMA from the 8th, and on Animehodai and d Anime Store from midnight on the 10th.

In recent years, there have been many cute cat manga, but few that depict the terror of cats. That said, even if they are scary, they are cute. I like cats. All human beings love cats. There is no need to think about whether you are a dog person or a cat person. Dogs are cute, and cats are cute. There is no need to think about which one you are in the first place. “Cats are cute,” isn’t that enough? However, it is scary to see the nonchalant attitude of cats, as if they think the world is theirs. I can’t help but think that it is the humans who are being kept as pets. I also have a cat, and since it is a member of my family, I can’t imagine being without it. That said, I’m not always aware of it or worried about it. In other words, it’s like air. I am Morikawa Toshiyuki, who plays Gunslinger, and I am a big dog person, but also a cat person. When I was chosen for the role, I remember that I had more than 10 cats at home when I was a child (laughs). I feel like I was raised by cats, but I can’t imagine fighting a cat. I have to be ruthless and take on the role here. I will do my best!

When I received the offer to do the narration, I was surprised to learn that the anime’s general director and sound director was Takashi Miike. Eh? Director Miike, famous for that violent movie!? However, the atmosphere on set was very calm, and the requests were very concise and gentle, so I was able to record freely! This work is a world line that cat lovers will love!
