Originally airing from July to September 2022, the series follows the growth and bond between two girls, Chisato Nishikigi and Takina Inoue, agents of “Lycoris,” a special task force under the secret organization “DA (Direct Attack)” that works to prevent crime.

The series portrays the daily lives of a mismatched duo working at the café “Lycoris,” a branch of the organization: Chisato Nishikigi, a free-spirited and optimistic elite said to be the strongest Lycoris of all time, and Takina Inoue, a cool and efficient but troubled Lycoris.
Upon its broadcast, the show’s shocking storyline quickly became a hot topic, sparking widespread discussion on social media. It ranked third on the Oricon Weekly Blu-ray Disc rankings on October 3, 2022, with first-week sales of 21,000 copies. “Lycoris Recoil” became a major hit, achieving the highest first-week sales for a TV anime release in 2022 (counting from December 27, 2021), and it has since been adapted into a stage play.
