The release date for the upcoming feature-length animated film AS ONE has been set for August 22. Directed by Kobun Shizuno—known for his work on the Detective Conan film series and Knights of Sidonia—the movie’s teaser trailer has now been unveiled.
It was also announced that mechanical design will be handled by Ippei Gyoubu, who worked on the original arcade game and is known for Gundam Reconguista in G and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. The film is a completely original story set in the same universe as the robot action game Paradox of Stars and Wings, which was available in arcades from 2018 to 2021. While it follows the game’s worldview, all characters are newly introduced. As in the game, character designs are by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, famed for his work on the Evangelion series.
The story centers around Yoh, a high school student on present-day Earth who dreams of becoming a musician while dealing with personal struggles. She experiences a fateful, dimension-transcending mental encounter with Laco, a robot mechanic on the planet Meguriboshi, where two superpowers remain in a coma-like stalemate after a catastrophic event. The title AS ONE references the “Special Knights (AZ-One),” the elite mecha pilots from the game who control humanoid weapons known as Air Real.
The teaser trailer showcases dreamlike visuals: Yoh and Laco reaching for each other within Laco’s consciousness, Laco piloting her machine to tackle massive orbital debris, Vigo receiving orders as part of the Bullguard unit, and a dynamic scene of Yoh running—with Bullguard also featured.
