“102% Higher Than the Previous Record-Breaker, ‘The Million Dollar Five-Pointed Star’!”
The latest installment in the Detective Conan movie series, Detective Conan: Afterimage of the One-Eyed Man (now in theaters), has drawn an impressive 2.3 million viewers and earned over 3.4 billion yen within its first three days of release.
The film’s opening weekend performance surpassed expectations, coming in at 102% higher than that of the previous record-holder, Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Five-Pointed Star. With this, it now holds the title for the highest opening in the franchise’s history.

As with last year, there were no advance screenings. Instead, the film made its debut with a special “World’s Fastest Sleepless Screening” held at midnight in 23 theaters across 10 prefectures.
In celebration of the film’s overwhelming success, a special stage greeting and teach-in event will be held on April 27th at TOHO Cinemas Umeda in Osaka, which will be live-streamed to 354 theaters across Japan. Set in the snowy Mt. Miho area of the Yatsugatake mountain range in Nagano Prefecture, the story begins with Yamato Gansuke of the Nagano Prefectural Police in hot pursuit of a suspect. During the chase, a rifle shot grazes his left eye, and an avalanche triggered by the encounter leaves him severely injured.
Ten months later, Gansuke and fellow officer Yui Uehara head to an astronomical observatory to investigate a new case involving an attack on a researcher. But as the observatory’s massive parabolic antenna begins to move, Gansuke’s previously blinded left eye starts throbbing inexplicably.
Meanwhile, the Mouri Detective Agency receives an unexpected call from “Wani,” a former colleague of Kogoro Mouri from his days with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. Wani is investigating the avalanche incident from ten months earlier and has discovered Kogoro’s name in the related case file. Kogoro arranges a meeting with him, and Conan decides to accompany him. However, on the way to the meeting point, a sudden gunshot rings out…
