Ishibashi plays Gai, a 14-year-old boy with a different sense of taste than most people and a penchant for unusual flavors. He is discovered to have the qualities to be a Samurai Trooper, and he dons a red-hot suit of armor and fights demons as “Red-hot Guy.”

The director will be Yoichi Fujita of “Mr. Osomatsu”, the series will be composed and scripted by Shogo Muto of the special effects series “Kamen Rider Build”, and the main character design will be by Yuhei Murota of “Love Live!”. The original Armor Gear design will be handled by Hideo Okamoto, who designed the armor in the previous work. The animation system will also be handled by Sunrise, as in the previous work.

“Samurai Troopers” is an original action series produced by Sunrise, known for the “Gundam” and “Code Geass” series. Set in modern Japan at the time of broadcast, the story follows five boys wearing “Yoroi Gear” – Ryo of Rekka (CV: Takeshi Kusao), Shin of Suiko (Nozomu Sasaki), Touma of the Sky (Taku Takemura), Shu of Kongou (Tomohiro Nishimura), and Seiji of Halo (Daiki Nakamura) – as they are led by the mysterious monk Chaos (Norio Wakamoto) to face off against the “Yoja” army led by the evil emperor Arago (Shigezo Sasaoka). The beautiful young characters designed by the late Norio Shioyama, known for “Armored Trooper Votoms,” gained popularity, and three OVAs were produced: “Samurai Troopers Gaiden” in 1989, “Samurai Troopers: Legend of the Emperor” in 1989, and “Samurai Troopers: Message” in 1991. “Samurai Troopers: Message,” a completely original story, begins a new tale of five young samurai set in Shinjuku in the Reiwa era.

The super teaser video starts with the seal of the evil world, which once terrorized the human world, being broken and the evil soldiers beginning their invasion. It shows Kai transforming while shouting “Armed! Scorching!!” and a scene where words appear on the napes of young men’s necks. The video ends with a sword being swung down with the line “Humans are ugly creatures.” The teaser visual shows Kai standing in a ruined city.

Samurai Troopers Sequel Airs Jan 2026
Classic Armor Warriors Return Under New Direction
The return of “Samurai Troopers” marks a bold step in reviving classic ’80s anime for a new generation. With Yoichi Fujita, known for blending comedy and heart in “Osomatsu-san”, taking the helm, the series is likely to balance nostalgia with a modern twist. Casting Yoa Ishibashi—a rising star—suggests the story may center on a younger cast, possibly the successors of the original Troopers. Fans can expect emotional depth, stylized action, and an exploration of legacy as the armor is passed down. January 2026 could reignite the spirit of bushido for both old fans and newcomers alike.
