The original work is a fantasy novel by Nekoko, currently being serialized on the novel submission site “Shousetsu ni Narou.” It follows Ilcia (voiced by Shunichi Toki), who is reincarnated as a dragon egg, as she strives to survive in a world teeming with strange, magical beasts and eventually evolve into a powerful dragon in order to communicate with humans. Volumes 1-12 of the print version are currently being published by Earth Star Entertainment, and volumes 13-16 are being published by Square Enix. The manga adaptation, currently being serialized by RIO on the webcomic site “Comic Earth Star,” has already published eight volumes.

The teaser trailer features never-before-seen footage from the film. It depicts the daily life of Ilcia, who evolved from an egg into a baby dragon, and features human characters and monsters who oppose her. The first key visual depicts Ilcia walking happily through the forest, with heroine Millia (Miku Ito) smiling behind her.

Full comments from the staff are below:
[Yuta Takamura (Director)] If you’re not strong, you can’t survive in the natural world. I hope you will witness the dragon’s way of life, evolving by drawing on the people, animals, and environment that it comes into contact with, and overcoming difficulties even as it suffers.
[Urahata Tatsuhiko (Series Composition)] How will the protagonist, who is reincarnated as a dragon egg in a forest full of predators, grow and who will he meet? Please experience this with us!
[Oda Hiroyasu (Monster Design)] I hope you will enjoy watching Ilcia, who, despite being clumsy, grows and changes both physically and mentally as he faces problems and makes decisions.
[Otani Sachi (Music)] When I received the script and started reading, I was overcome with the joy of reading for the first time in a long time and couldn’t put it down, and I read it completely absorbed! When I attended the music meeting, Director Takamura told me that he wanted the musical concept to be “psychedelic trance!” Oh, I see. It’s a genre I’ve never tried before! I researched and learned a lot, and I succeeded in combining it with the “orchestral,” “rock,” and “ethnic” elements that have formed my career so far. Director Takamura and the rest of the production staff were very pleased with the song, and from there they went straight into composing about 60 songs. I can’t wait to see the finished product!

A New Life Begins as a Monster – First Glimpse at the Dragon Hatchling’s Journey
“I Got Reincarnated as a Dragon Egg” brings a refreshing twist to the ever-popular isekai genre. Rather than waking up as an overpowered hero, the protagonist starts at the very bottom—an egg. This humble beginning promises a unique evolution-based storyline where each battle and decision may shape the protagonist’s form and destiny. With the teaser trailer showing glimpses of fantasy creatures and intense survival scenes, the anime seems set to blend action, growth, and a bit of humor in a non-traditional isekai setting. Fans of monster-protagonist series like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime will likely find something to enjoy here.
