The latest film in the Detective Conan series, Detective Conan: Afterimage of an Eye, has drawn 4.3 million viewers and surpassed 6.34 billion yen in box office revenue within just 10 days of its release.

Released on April 18 at a record-breaking 522 theaters across Japan—including 55 IMAX, 62 4DX, 12 MX4D, and 9 Dolby Cinema screens—the film opened without any advance screenings. Instead, it kicked off with a special midnight “World’s Fastest Sleepless Screening” at 23 theaters in 10 prefectures.

Within the first three days, the movie attracted 2.3 million viewers and earned over 3.4 billion yen. Its opening performance was 102% higher than last year’s The Million Dollar Five-Pointed Star, marking the best debut in the franchise’s history.

To celebrate the film’s success and express gratitude to fans, a special “Yamabiko Cheering Screening” event—where audience members are allowed to cheer—has been announced. The first of these screenings will take place on May 16 at 8 theaters in 6 prefectures, including Nagano, the setting of this year’s film.

Additionally, on May 23, a unique cheering screening featuring automatically controlled penlights will be held. Viewers who bring the special penlights will experience effects that sync with character colors (e.g., Conan = blue, Kogoro = orange, Gansuke = red), music, sound effects, and scene tones. For example, snowy scenes will be bathed in white light, and during action sequences, the penlights will flash rapidly, creating a thrilling and immersive experience.
