A Star More Dazzling Than the Sun is currently serialized in Bessatsu Margaret (Shueisha) and has sold over 2.75 million copies. The story follows Sae Iwata, a girl who is slightly stronger than average, and Kouki Kamishiro, a frail boy. Sae fell in love at first sight with Kamishiro’s smile when they were in elementary school. As they entered junior high, the once small and thin Kamishiro grew into a refreshing and handsome young man, becoming someone Sae felt distant from. However, they reunite at their final junior high sports festival, awakening the first love that had long been hidden in their hearts. “No matter how far apart we are, you will always be my dazzling star.” This is a sparkling story of first love.

The teaser visual shows Sae and Kamishiro exchanging shy glances at each other from across their classroom desks, creating a charming and memorable scene.

The teaser PV begins with Sae reflecting on her memories of Kamishiro from their elementary school days. The image of a slightly older Sae with a backpack overlaps with the once frail Kamishiro, now grown into a cool and composed young man. Though Sae once tries to give up on her first love, she listens to her heart and decides to pursue Kamishiro once again. The trailer beautifully captures the vivid emotions of their story.

■ Cast Comments

▼ Mitsunori Fujidera (Sae Iwata)

— What do you find appealing about this series?

Fujidera: When I first read the original manga, I was drawn to its warm, sparkling world and all the charming characters. It filled me with a sense of kindness. I was especially captivated by Sae’s heartfelt monologues, which reveal her inner emotions in such detail. The more you get to know her, the more you want to support her as she sincerely devotes herself to Kamishiro.

— What are your thoughts on playing Sae Iwata?

Fujidera: Sae carefully chooses her words with great thoughtfulness and kindness, and I find that truly wonderful. I love everything about her — the heartfelt emotions she expresses, the way she enjoys her food, and the occasional glimpses of vulnerability in her expressions. Since I was a high school student during the recording, I tried to stay true to that life-sized feeling. I portrayed Sae with great care, focusing on how best to express the delicate fluctuations of her heart.

■ Character Introduction

▼ Sae Iwata

A girl who is a little tougher than average. She is kind-hearted and can’t leave people in trouble alone. Sae fell in love with Kamishiro at first sight when they were in elementary school. However, as he grew older and they were placed in different classes in middle school, they grew distant. In high school, Sae joins the tennis club and once again finds herself in the same class as Kamishiro. Her nickname is “Iwa-chan.”

▼ Kouki Kamishiro — Voiced by Yuki Ono

— What do you find appealing about this series?

Ono: When I first read the original manga, I got so absorbed that I felt I might spoil everything if I talked too much. Sakuei’s personality, his interactions with friends, Kamishiro’s sparkling yet relatable character — everything blends together to create a story that constantly makes you wonder, “What happens next!?” There’s still so much more to love, so if you’re interested, I hope you’ll dive into the world of Tamahoshi.

— What are your thoughts on playing Kouki Kamishiro?

Ono: Actually, I lived in Sapporo during my elementary school years, and it turns out that one of the locations in the story is from that area, so I felt a deep sense of familiarity. However, the Kamishiro I portray isn’t just a sparkling prince-type character. More than anything, I want to convey the youthful spirit of Kamishiro through my voice, even though I’m now in my 40s. During the audition, I was told, “Ono-san, we didn’t know you could bring this kind of vibe!” I’m holding onto those words as my lifeline and giving it everything I’ve got.
