Comments from the original author, Mr. Sakuraku, and the cast are as follows.

[Sakuraku Roku (original author)]

When I heard about the anime adaptation, I was just preparing the final volume of the manga, so I remember it was a shock, but at the same time, I didn’t feel sad about the ending. The script and direction of the anime staff, the voice actors’ performances, everything was so great that I was always laughing, saying “Ugly Girl… it’s funny…”. In fact, the theme song is so good that I wonder if it’s okay to have such a good song, and the quality is so amazing from end to end. This is all thanks to the many people who have been involved in Ugly Girl and the readers who have read Ugly Girl. I hope that everyone who will watch the anime from now on will enjoy it.

Q1. Please tell us your impression of this work. When I first came across the original work, I was drawn in by the strong character of Tabata Hana and the good tempo of the story. Then, I was deeply moved by the gradual changes in her relationship with Ueno-kun, I was touched by the feelings of Uguisudani-san and Shinbashi-kun, I reminisced about the lively student life with many events, I was drawn to Hana’s clumsy twists and turns, and I remember that the charms came from all directions and I felt more and more immersed in the story. I feel that this is a work that you can watch while empathizing with each character and feeling like you are rooting for everyone.
Q2. Please tell us your enthusiasm for playing the character. At school, Hana-chan tries to be as quiet and inconspicuous as possible, but at home she can talk freely with her family, and in her own heart she is very eloquent and has big reactions. During the dubbing, I had fun recording while trying to get the speed of the switching and the tempo of the conversation. I also hope to be able to express through my voice how her feelings change little by little as the story progresses.

Q1. Please tell us your impression of this work. The characters’ feelings change, like a bud slowly blooming into a flower. I think the great appeal of this work is that it carefully depicts this delicate process. Warm and endearing time flows as you watch over the emotional fluctuations and growth of each character. And don’t forget the comedy scenes! I hope that you can enjoy the various subtleties of the heart, while also smiling.
Q2. Please tell us your enthusiasm in playing the character. Ueno Yosuke, the character I play, is a bright guy who always shines like the sun! He has such a bright and straightforward personality that you feel like you can photosynthesize just by looking at him (laughs). On the other hand, the changes in his state of mind progress calmly and slowly, like a tectonic shift, but surely. I will do my best to deliver to the viewers the path of Ueno’s unique growth!

[Aoyama Yoshino (role of Uguisudani Sumire)]

Q1. Please tell us your impression of this work. When I first saw the title, I was taken aback by the word “ugly”. But the next moment, I was captivated by the delicate, lovable and comical radiance of Tabata and the others. The depiction of the emotions and human relationships is really careful, and the way they slowly and gradually change is somehow real even though it is fiction, and I feel that this beauty is the charm of this work.
Q2. Please tell us your enthusiasm in playing the character. Uguisudani Sumire exists in the story as a symbol of the opposite of Tabata. I don’t know how much I can talk about here, but Uguisudani is just cute! No matter what anyone says about her, let me say that she is cute. I would like to express her human range to the best of my ability, boldly, but also delicately.

[Hosoya Yoshimasa (role of Gotanda Tetsuo)]

[Comment from Hosoya Yoshimasa] Q1. Please tell us your impression of this work. It’s peaceful, calm, and without conflict, and I think it can be enjoyed by a wide range of age groups. Watching the main character, Tabata Hana, makes you want to cheer her on, motivate yourself to do your best, and even make you feel sorry for her. It’s a nice story. I’m looking forward to the broadcast.
Q2. Please tell us your enthusiasm for playing the character. Even in peaceful everyday life, many things happen in the lives of high school students, and because it is a story that depicts a sensitive period, I think the small everyday events are portrayed dramatically. I look forward to it.
