"Crayon Shin-chan movie to be released in India

The latest “Crayon Shin-chan” movie will be released in theaters in India, where the story is set; dubbed versions in various local languages will also be shown.

The 32nd film in the “Crayon Shin-chan” series, “Crayon Shin-chan: Super Brilliant! Scorching Kasukabe Dancers” (released August 8th), has been announced for a theatrical release in India in late October. To coincide with India’s biggest festival, Diwali, the film will be screened in Japanese with English subtitles, as well as dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

This work is set in India for the first time in the series. After winning a dance competition, Shinnosuke and his friends in the “Kasukabe Defense Force” get a ticket to Musivai, Hashmir, India, which is a sister city of Kasukabe City. While enjoying a trip to India, Shinnosuke and Bo-chan find a backpack that resembles the shape of a nose in a suspicious general store. Bo-chan accidentally sticks a piece of paper from the backpack into his nose, and is led by evil powers to transform into a “tyrant (Bo-kun)” and gain the power to shake the world.

“Crayon Shin-chan,” which is broadcast in a total of 50 countries and regions, boasts one of the highest viewer ratings in India. In 2006, the TV anime series began broadcasting on the kids’ channel “HungamaTV” under JioStar (formerly Disney India), and from May 2012, it has also been broadcast on the kids’ channel “Sony YAY!” under Sony Pictures.

Both channels have aired the film series over the years, but in India, the world’s number one film-producing country, domestic films are overwhelmingly popular and there is a strong perception that films are entertainment for adults, so it was very difficult to release children’s films in theaters.

In the midst of all this, the appeal and potential of children’s animated films is beginning to attract attention, and with this tailwind, it has been decided that “Crayon Shin-chan the Movie” will enter theaters in India. Prior to the release of “Super Brilliant! Scorching Kasukabe Dancers,” “Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Our Dinosaur Diary” (24), which recorded the highest box office revenue in the series’ history of 2.69 billion yen, is scheduled to be released in theaters from May 9th.
