The full comments from original author Hattori Mitsuru and Suzuyo, who plays Kaneme, as well as a congratulatory illustration, are below.

My name is Suzushiro Sayumi, and I will be playing the role of Kaneme Watanaka. When I first read the original work, I was very moved by the beautiful illustrations of the city of Atami by Hattori-sensei, and the depth of “cleaning,” something I knew nothing about. I remember feeling happy the day after I was notified that I had passed the audition, and taking my clothes to the dry cleaners for the first time in a long time. The only thing Kaneme remembers about cleaning, after losing his memory. I can’t take my eyes off the people and stories he meets through the cleaning! I will do my best to play the role, so please look forward to it!

A Human Drama Set in a Quiet Atami Dry Cleaner, Starring Sayumi Suzushiro
“Can You Clean Me Up?” being adapted into a TV anime in 2026 presents a refreshing contrast to the action-heavy and fantasy-dominated anime lineup. By setting the story in a small dry cleaning shop in Atami, the series focuses on human connection, daily struggles, and emotional healing. The involvement of Sayumi Suzushiro, known for her ability to portray delicate and emotionally rich characters, suggests that the anime will highlight subtle, slice-of-life storytelling. This could appeal strongly to fans of works like March Comes in Like a Lion or Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū. The serene setting of Atami may also serve as a symbolic backdrop for personal redemption and the idea that even the smallest acts of care—like cleaning clothes—can become powerful metaphors for mending emotional wounds.
