It has been announced that Ikimonogakari and Tomonari Sora will be performing the theme songs for the sixth series of the TV anime series “Kingdom,” which will begin airing in October. The first official trailer and teaser visuals have also been released.
The original work is a popular historical manga by Hara Yasuhisa, which is currently being serialized in “Weekly Young Jump” (published by Shueisha), and has sold over 110 million copies in total. Set in China during the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period, the story follows the exploits of a young boy named Shin (voiced by Morita Masakazu) who aspires to become a great general, and the young king Ei Sei (voiced by Fukuyama Jun), who later becomes the first emperor of the Qin dynasty. The TV anime series began airing in 2012. In the sixth series, the Qin state, which aims to conquer the western part of Zhao, forms an alliance of three armies led by Ousen (Horiuchi Kenyuu), Kanki (Ito Kentaro), and Yang Duanhe (Sonozaki Mie) to oppose Zhao’s genius military strategist, Riboku (Morikawa Toshiyuki). Shin and his Hi Shin Unit join as an independent mobile force, and a fierce battle begins over Ye, a city close to the Zhao capital of Handan.
The opening theme song has been decided to be “Ikitete, Sansan” by Ikimonogakari, and the ending theme song will be “Houkou” sung by Tomonari.

The first trailer begins with a scene from eight years after the death of the great general Ou Ki (Koyama Rikiya), who was feared throughout China, in which Shin, who has survived countless near-death experiences and grown into a warrior, decides to enter into an all-out war with Zhao. As the song “Ikite, Sansan” plays, the trailer shows Shin leading the charge against the enemy, hoping to connect the hopes of his fallen comrades to the future. The teaser visual shows Shin holding the spear entrusted to him by Ou Ki and crushing the swarming enemy soldiers.

[Ikimonogakari (Opening theme song)]

“Kingdom” began serialization in 2006, and Ikimonogakari’s debut also in 2006. Just like the protagonists Shin and Sei, “Kingdom” has soared powerfully and is now known throughout Japan. We have always watched with admiration and excitement as the series grew to become as big as a great general, and we, Ikimonogakari, are honored to be able to take part in this wave in the form of an anime theme song. We also remembered the conversations we had with Hara-sensei, who is a good friend of ours, since our debut. We have created an anthem to living life to the fullest.
[Tomonari Sora (Ending Theme Song)]

The battles in “Kingdom” are truly a clash of beliefs. In order to express that heat, the sounds of armor rubbing, shouts, and even roars were all recorded from scratch. The lyrics are hidden to evoke the historical background and the world of the story. It is a powerful song that brings to mind the image of a roar echoing and a large army rushing through. Please feel the sounds of battle resonating in your heart along with the sixth series. I am truly honored to have been in charge of the ending theme.
