Conan Dominates Box Office for 5th Week

Strong momentum continues as Japanese cinema sees steady performances across genres

The consistent success of Detective Conan: Afterimage of One Eye highlights not only the franchise’s deep-rooted popularity but also the power of long-running IPs in Japanese cinema. While newer releases like Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning and Kakukaku Shikajika debut strongly, Conan’s grip on the top spot demonstrates how emotional connection and cultural familiarity drive audience loyalty. Interestingly, a diverse mix of genres—animated hits, Hollywood blockbusters, autobiographical dramas, and even nostalgic snack-themed films—reflects the broad tastes of Japanese moviegoers. The continued appeal of titles like Tabekko Animals THE MOVIE and Uta no Prince-sama also underscores how multimedia franchises (anime, music, character goods) remain essential in the domestic market.
