The release date for “Zootopia 2,” the sequel to Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” has been set for December 5th, and the first stills have been unveiled. They feature the popular duo Judy and Nick, who reunite, along with new character Gary.
Released in 2016, “Zootopia” gained popularity for its buddy pairing of Judy, the always-positive, dreamy rabbit police officer, and Nick, the cool, sarcastic but lovable fox con artist. Its profound message about discrimination and prejudice also resonated with many. Winning an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award, it became the first Disney animation film since “Frozen” to surpass $1 billion in global box office revenue. It was also a huge hit in Japan, grossing over ¥7.6 billion.

In the sequel, Nick and Judy, who have successfully graduated from police academy and become police officers, team up again. One day, the two go undercover to search for Gary, a snake that suddenly appears in Zootopia. Their bond is tested more than ever before, and they soon find themselves uncovering a huge mystery surrounding Zootopia’s history. The film is directed by Jared Bush, who co-directed and wrote the first film, and Byron Howard, who continues from the first film.
A still photo shows Judy, Nick, and Gary, the target they were supposed to be pursuing, all looking straight at the camera, raising expectations for the new story and how their relationship will change.
“Zootopia 2” will be released nationwide on December 5th.

Judy, Nick, and a Slithering Surprise—Gary the Snake Enters the Scene
The long-awaited sequel to Zootopia finally has a release date—December 5th. Alongside returning favorites Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, fans were surprised to see the reveal of a new character: Gary, a talking snake. Introducing a reptile into the mammal-centric world of Zootopia hints at a broader expansion of the film’s universe. This move could suggest new social dynamics and challenges, potentially deepening the film’s exploration of diversity and inclusion. Will predators and prey now face a common “outsider” in the form of reptiles? All eyes are on how Disney will evolve the metaphor-rich storytelling of the original.
