The romantic youth manga Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki is getting a TV anime adaptation, set to begin broadcasting in January 2026 on 28 TBS-affiliated stations nationwide. Rei Ichinomiya will voice Yoi Takiguchi, while Ryota Suzuki will play Kohaku Ichimura. A teaser visual and main staff details have also been revealed.

The manga, currently serialized in Dessert (Kodansha) and created by Mika Yamamori—also known for Daytime Shooting Star, which received a live-action adaptation—is a romantic story about Yoi, a beautiful and dignified girl often nicknamed the “prince,” and Kohaku, an older boy who also carries the same nickname. The latest volume, Volume 9, is scheduled for release on May 13.

Yoi, voiced by Ichinomiya, is a first-year high school student who can’t ignore people in need. Though serious and dependable, she can also be a bit airheaded at times. Kohaku, voiced by Suzuki, is a second-year student who seems carefree and flirtatious but occasionally shows a more thoughtful side. He becomes intrigued by Yoi—the “other prince” he meets by chance—and begins to actively pursue her. The teaser visual features the two “princes” standing side by side.

Q1. What do you find appealing about this work?

I think the greatest appeal of this story lies in its delicate and beautiful portrayal of emotions. Ever since Yoi-chan met Kohaku-senpai, he has remained in her heart, causing her to feel unsure not only about him but also about herself. I can deeply relate to the way her emotions shift—her sensitivity can be heartwarming at times and heartbreaking at others. The story is full of the bittersweet feelings unique to first love, and it often left a tight feeling in my chest.

Q2. What are you passionate about in playing this character?

At first glance, Yoi-chan’s beauty might be overwhelming, but inside, she is very sincere, kind, and a bit awkward. Because she takes relationships seriously, she tends to overthink and worry a lot. I want to carefully portray her wavering heart and the feelings she gradually develops for her senior. I’ll do my best to express those subtle emotions.

Q1. What do you find appealing about this work?

Not only are Mr. Yamamori’s illustrations beautiful, but the emotional subtleties of high school students are portrayed with great delicacy. The moments when you start to take interest in someone, feel uncertainty, or reflect on who you are—these are depicted so naturally that they’re easy to empathize with. Well, I might have used some complicated words here, but to put it simply: Yoi-chan is beautiful and cute, and Kohaku is cool—with a bit of danger to him!

Q2. What are you passionate about in playing the character?

This is actually my first time appearing in an anime adaptation of a classic shoujo manga, and it’s something I’ve always hoped to do again. We’re currently in the middle of dubbing, and while it’s a challenge to express things with delicate nuance, I’m truly happy to have been given this valuable opportunity—it’s the ultimate joy as a performer. I’m putting my heart into conveying not only Kohaku’s charm but also his emotional instability.

It still feels like a dream to be writing this kind of comment. As someone who also enjoys watching anime from time to time, this experience made me realize how much effort and dedication creators put into every single frame we enjoy. I’m very excited to see the anime bring out a new dimension of the story—one that you can’t fully experience just by reading the manga.
