“New Ghost in the Shell TV Anime Reveals Official Title, Latest Trailer, and Main Staff Including Toh Enjo”

The upcoming Ghost in the Shell TV anime, previously known under the tentative title “Ghost in the Shell,” has officially been titled Ghost in the Shell: THE GHOST IN THE SHELL. Produced by Science SARU, the series has also unveiled its second teaser visual and a new special trailer.

The main staff has also been revealed. Moko-chan, known as the assistant director of Dandadan, will direct the series. Acclaimed sci-fi writer Toh Enjo will be in charge of series composition and scriptwriting, while Shuhei Handa (Spriggan) will serve as both character designer and chief animation director.

The Ghost in the Shell anime franchise began with Mamoru Oshii’s iconic 1995 film GHOST IN THE SHELL. It was followed by the Ghost in the Shell: STAND ALONE COMPLEX series directed by Kenji Kamiyama, and the Ghost in the Shell: ARISE series with Kazuya Kise as chief director—all produced by Production I.G. More recently, the 3DCG series Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, co-directed by Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, has been streaming exclusively on Netflix worldwide. Compilation films for SAC_2045 were also released in theaters in 2021 and 2023.

“Ghost in the Shell” is scheduled to air in 2026. Here’s the full comment from original creator Shirow Masamune:

“In terms of anime alone, this new Ghost in the Shell marks the fourth major iteration, following the versions by Oshii, Kamiyama, and Kise. If we break things down further—separating Oshii’s Innocence, counting the S.A.C. series as Seasons 1, 2, and Solid State Society, including ARISE and its New Theatrical Edition, and treating SAC_2045 as two separate seasons—this would actually be the 10th Ghost in the Shell project.

With a completely new staff, perhaps this could even be seen as the first of a “second-generation” Ghost in the Shell. The original manga is quite old now, so please forgive any differences or changes. That said, I truly hope this will be a strong production that viewers can enjoy in their own way.”
