“Mobile Suit Gundam Wing” 30th anniversary project launched; 3-volume official book set to be released

A project to commemorate the 30th anniversary of “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing,” which aired in 1995, has been launched, and new visuals and a special website have been released. The release of an official book has also been decided.

“Mobile Suit Gundam Wing” is the second installment of the “Gundam Alternative Series,” following “Mobile Fighter G Gundam,” which aired in 1994. In the year A.C. (After Colony) 195, five boys, including Heero Yuy (CV: Midorikawa Hikaru), ride Gundams and descend to Earth, respectively, as part of “Operation Meteor,” which was launched to oppress the Earth Unified Alliance, which is suppressing the space colonies. The boys who landed on Earth at the same time attack the Alliance in various places, and the fates of the five boys eventually intersect. In the midst of all this, they fall into a trap set by Treize Khushrenada (Okiayu Ryutaro), the leader of a secret society within the alliance called “OZ,” and wipe out the alliance’s peace faction. Sometimes working together and sometimes on their own terms, the five Gundam pilots stand up against the dictatorship of “OZ,” which has come to the forefront.
The original visual shows Heero being celebrated in formal attire, along with heroine Relena Dorian (Uechi Aki/formerly known as Yajima Akiko). The special website contains the latest topics and introductions to related merchandise.

“Mobile Suit Gundam Wing & Endless Waltz 30th Anniversary Official Book – Operation 30th -” is a set of three books, and includes storyboards for the first episode of the TV series and the movie “Endless Waltz Special Edition,” original drawings for the opening and ending by character designer Murase Shukou, and production materials such as corrections by the animation director and various line drawing settings. It also includes a roundtable discussion with Midorikawa, Uechiaki, Okiayu, Koyasu Takehito (voice of Zechs Marquis), Seki Toshihiko (voice of Duo Maxwell), Nakahara Shigeru (voice of Trowa Barton), Orikasa Ai (voice of Quatre Labarba Winner), and Ishino Ryuzo (voice of Zhang Wufei). It is housed in a three-sided box with an original illustration by Ishigaki Junya, who was in charge of mechanical design, and is priced at 16,500 yen. Reservations are being accepted until September 24th, and it is scheduled to be released on December 12th. A mini colored paper of “Wing Gundam Zero” will be included as a pre-order bonus on Premium Bandai, while a mini colored paper of “Wing Gundam Zero EW Edition” will be included on A-on STORE.
