The domestic movie rankings for March 7-9 (nationwide weekend box office results, provided by Kogyo Tsushinsha) have been announced, with three new films dominating the top spots. The new film “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Picture World Story” started off in first place. This is the 44th feature-length film of the nationally popular anime, and commemorates the 45th anniversary of the “Doraemon the Movie” series. In the opening three days, it attracted 571,000 people and earned 703 million yen in box office revenue. This is 106.1% of the attendance and 107.1% of the box office revenue of the 43rd film, “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Symphony of the Earth,” which recorded a box office revenue of 4.31 billion yen. As an admission bonus for all, a “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Picture World Story ‘Iroiro! Manga BOOK'” (pamphlet) was distributed.
“Wicked: Two Witches” came in second, and “35 Years of Love Letter” debuted in third place. In fourth place was “First Kiss 1ST KISS,” followed by “Trillion Games: The Movie” in fifth, “Unknown Girlfriend” in sixth, and “Under Ninja” in seventh.
Other new works included “Faces Just Don’t Fall in Love” which ranked in eighth place. This love comedy is a live-action film adaptation of a popular comic by Karin Anzai, serialized in “Hana to Yume” (Hakusensha), starring Miyase Ryuya of “Lovesick Ellie” and co-starring Kumada Rinka.
In ninth place was “Hypnosis Mic Division Rap Battle,” which rose again from 11th place last week. Starting from the 8th, “Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- CHARACTER MESSAGE CARD [Buster Bros!!!/MAD TRIGGER CREW/Fling Posse ver.]” (total of nine types) were distributed randomly as the third admission bonus. “366 Days,” now in its ninth week since release, is in 10th place.
