The original sci-fi work was conceived by novelist and screenwriter Tou Ubukata, with character ideas by Hiromu Arakawa (“Fullmetal Alchemist” and “Silver Spoon”), and animation by WIT STUDIO (“Ranking of Kings” and “SPY×FAMILY”). Set in the near future, where the economic disparity between Earth and the Moon is threatening to spark a war, the protagonist Jack heads to the Moon with his comrades as a scout for the Earth Army to take revenge on his family, who were taken by a terrorist bombing by rebel forces on the Moon.
Full comments from director Koizuka Masashi and cast members Kobayashi and Kamimura are below.
[Koizuka Masashi (Director)] I believe this is the first space opera that Wit Studio has created. It is also the first original production our team has made with Netflix, and it is full of the excitement and madness that occurred on set. I have watched the finished footage many times, and the actors breathed life into it with their madness, and the staff on set raised the level of the visuals to a much higher level than we had anticipated. I hope you will enjoy this synergy.
[Kobayashi Chiaki (Jacob Shadow)]
I will be voicing Jack in the anime “Moonrise”. My name is Kobayashi Chiaki. I am very honored to be able to work on this project with such wonderful people whom I respect. As this is an original anime, the full picture is shrouded in mystery, but the action is powerful and full of speed, which is very appealing. In order to not be outdone by the incredible animation, we, the cast, have been fighting and shouting with all our hearts and souls since morning, so I hope you will watch it and feel the passion of this work. Moonrise!! [Uemura Yuto (role of Phil Arche)]
“Moonrise” was recorded for a long time, and the tension created by the dialogue was a pleasant dubbing scene. I’ve been looking forward to the time when the information is lifted, so I’m very happy. This film has many battle scenes and is impressive for its intense clashes, but Phil is also a struggling figure in the vortex. He plays Phil, who moves with solid beliefs and ambitions, in his physical form. Please take a look while paying attention to the conflicts of each character. Stay tuned!
