I wrote the opening theme “Reunion” for “The Summer Where Light Died”. I wrote the song to express the sense of anxiety I felt when reading the original manga, not knowing what would happen with each turn of the page. I hope it will be a song that will challenge me in future anime music. Who would you like to meet if you could meet someone again?

I’m Nakajima Yoshiki, and I’ll be voicing Maki Yuta. Maki destroys the atmosphere of the story in a good way… by using every trick in the book… (laughs). The “ordinary life” of Maki, Yuuki, and the others that comes even in the midst of the terrifying “unusual” life that clings to your skin like the sticky, unpleasant sweat of summer gives the story a bit of a refreshing feeling. I’ve been drawn to this work ever since the shocking first episode of the original work. I can’t wait to share this feeling with everyone. Look forward to the broadcast!

[Wakayama Shion (role of Tadokoro Yuki)]

When I first read the original work, I was drawn in by the unique atmosphere of the abnormality that exists side by side with the normal in the days of summer, and before I knew it, I was completely absorbed in the story. Although they live their lives unsteadily like tightrope walkers, and have long since left normalcy somewhere behind, at school, the “normal” that never changes is waiting for them. I really, really love this work with that kind of atmosphere. I will do my best to help deliver this atmosphere to you.

Star-studded Cast and Music Raise Expectations for Atmospheric Horror Anime

The announcement that Vaundy, known for his emotionally powerful vocals and genre-blending music, will perform the opening theme for The Summer When the Light Died adds a layer of musical depth to this eerie and atmospheric anime. Combined with the voice talents of Yoshiki Nakajima and Shion Wakayama—both known for their nuanced performances—the series seems to be positioning itself as a standout in the summer season, blending haunting visuals with equally compelling sound design. This choice of artists suggests that the production aims not just to scare, but to deeply move its audience.
