The slapstick romantic comedy manga “Seitokai mo Ana wa Aru!” is getting a TV anime adaptation. Along with the announcement, the main staff, teaser visual, and a special promotional video have been revealed.
Originally created by Muchimaro, the manga is currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine (Kodansha) and has gained significant popularity. It won first place in the Comics Division of the “Next Manga Awards 2023” and has over 1.6 million copies in circulation.
The story follows Ume Mizunoe, a first-year student at Fujinari Private High School, who excels in the humanities but struggles with science. To improve her grades, she joins the student council, which is full of eccentric members: the charismatic but sullen president Hisako Kotobuki; the sweet yet intimidating accountant Alice Terui; the cheeky and adorable Tan Otori, who often gets mistaken for a girl; and the carefree Komaro Michinoku, who frequently finds herself in trouble.
So far, nine volumes of the manga have been published.

The TV anime adaptation of Seitokai mo Ana wa Aru! features a talented staff lineup. Naoyuki Ryurin (Omuro Family: Dear Sisters / Dear Friends) is directing the series, with Ryo Imamura (Big Brother is Over!) handling character design. Masahiro Yokotani (Loser Heroines Are Too Many!) is in charge of series composition and scriptwriting. Animation production is by Passione, known for My Yuri is a Job!
The teaser visual features the five student council members gathered in their meeting room. The special promotional video, using this visual, introduces the main staff and features a male narrator who humorously wonders, “Is it really okay to turn this into an anime?”
Below are full comments from the director, character designer, scriptwriter, and the original author:
Naoyuki Ryurin (Director):
Congratulations on the anime adaptation! The daily chaos caused by the Fujinari Academy Student Council will come to life in animated form. We’re working hard on the production, so please look forward to seeing the original manga’s scenes play out on screen!
Ryo Imamura (Character Design):
Hi, I’m Imamura, the character designer. My mission is to faithfully express the unique anatomy and “fetish appeal” drawn by Muchimaro-sensei, as well as the individuality of each character. I’m pouring my heart into the work, so please wait just a bit longer!
Masahiro Yokotani (Series Composition/Script):
Gags, eroticism, and emotion—three elements that usually don’t mix—are perfectly balanced in this work, creating an incredible synergy. I’ll never forget the shock I felt reading the manga for the first time. During our meetings, I kept asking, “Can we really broadcast this?” What color is Tan’s XX? How will the president’s XX scene be portrayed? I can’t wait to see it on air!
