“Kowloon Generic Romance” — A Mysterious Love Story Set in the Walled City

Based on the manga by Jun Mayuzuki, known for Love is Like After the Rain, Kowloon Generic Romance is a mysterious love story set in a nostalgic version of the Kowloon Walled City. Kujirai Reiko (voiced by Haruka Shiraishi) works at a real estate agency and has feelings for her senior colleague, Hajime Kudo (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita). One day, she discovers that Kudo once had a fiancée who looked exactly like her. As the story unfolds, Reiko begins to uncover a deep secret hidden within the city.

A live-action film adaptation starring Riho Yoshioka and Koji Mizukami is also slated for release in 2025.

Yuriko Yamaguchi joins the anime cast as Kujirai B, Kudo’s former fiancée — a woman who shares the exact same appearance as the main character, Kujirai Reiko (also referred to as Kujirai A). Her mysterious presence comes to light after Reiko spots her in an old photo belonging to Kudo.

Comment from Yuriko Yamaguchi (voice of Kujirai B):
“When I was young, I stayed in Hong Kong for about two weeks for work. While the million-dollar night views sparkled, the back alleys were dim, nostalgic, and cluttered. Reading this story brought back vivid memories — the dim lights, the moldy alleys — everything felt so familiar and nostalgic. I instantly became a fan. I hope that Kudo-san, Recopon, and Kujirai B will blend beautifully into the world everyone imagines.”
