Japan’s August 8–10 Domestic Box Office Rankings Announced

According to Kogyo Tsushinsha’s national weekend box office report, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Castle Arc – Chapter 1: Akaza Returns maintained its No. 1 position for the fourth consecutive weekend. Over the three-day holiday period in its fourth week, the film drew 1,309,500 viewers and earned ¥1.919 billion. As of August 11, cumulative totals have exceeded ¥22 billion in revenue with 15.69 million admissions, placing it sixth in Japan’s all-time box office rankings, just behind Your Name.

A new bonus for theatergoers—six varieties of “Clear Cards”—will be distributed to 4 million attendees nationwide starting August 9. Additionally, MX4D and 4DX screenings have been announced, with a special seven-day advance run from August 15 to 21, followed by a wider release in 74 theaters nationwide beginning August 30.

Debuting in second place was Jurassic World: New Frontiers, while Tokyo MER: The Movie – The Mobile Emergency Room, South Seas Mission ranked third.

Opening in fourth place was Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: The Super Magnificent! Scorching Hot Kasukabe Dancers, which sold 363,000 tickets and grossed ¥450 million in its first three days. The 32nd installment in the long-running series is set in India, where Shinnosuke and the Kasukabe Defense Force must stop Bo-chan after he turns into a rampaging tyrant. Guest voice appearances include actor Kento Kaku and comedy duo Viking’s Eiji Kotoge and Mizuki Nishimura. In its first four days, the film drew 516,000 viewers and grossed ¥633 million—102% of the attendance of last year’s Crayon Shin-chan: Our Dinosaur Diary (¥2.69 billion total gross), the franchise’s highest-grossing entry to date—putting it on track to potentially surpass that record.

Rounding out the top ten were National Treasure in fifth place, newcomer About a Place in the Kinki Region in sixth, Erio the Hoshi-nagi in seventh, Haunted Property Zoku: Scary Floor Plan in eighth, Kamen Rider Gab the Movie: Candy House Invaders (paired with Number One Sentai Gojuger the Movie: Resurrection of the Tega Sword) in ninth, and Fantastic 4: First Step in tenth.
