The original animation “Goodbye Lala”, which has been announced as a 15th anniversary work of Kinema Citrus, known for “Made in Abyss” and “My Happy Marriage”, has been decided to be broadcast as a TV anime in 2026. It has also been revealed that Kana Hishikawa will play the role of the main character Lala, and the teaser PV and the second teaser visual have been released.
Based on the fairy tale “The Little Mermaid”, the story depicts the mermaid princess Lala, who once fell in forbidden love with a human prince but disappeared into the sea as foam without it being fulfilled, but is resurrected in Lake Biwa 200 years later and searches for “true love”. Takuji Koide, a director and animator affiliated with Kinema Citrus and a native of Shiga Prefecture, where the story is set, will be trying his hand at directing for the first time.

The teaser PV includes scenes from Lala’s upbringing and her meeting with the prince. It also features Lala’s voice saying “I… fell in love” for the first time. The second teaser visual was drawn by character designer Shiori Tani and colored by illustrator MON. It shows Lala with a sad expression and tears streaming down her face. A visual of the main character, Lala, as a mermaid princess has also been revealed.

[Hishkawa Kana (voice of Lala)]

My name is Hishikawa Kana, and I will be playing the role of Lara. When I saw the storyboard in the audition materials, I was drawn to this work, not only as an actor but also as a person, and I really wanted to enter that world. I am so happy that I was chosen and that I get to live as Lara. I look forward to having fun with everyone. I look forward to working with you all in the future!
